Professory Jason Payne-James

Professor Jason Payne-James is one of the UK’s leading forensic physicians and an internationally recognised expert in forensic and legal medicine. A former President of the Faculty of Forensic & Legal Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians, he has spent decades examining the evidence behind some of the most complex and challenging cases.

His expertise spans injury, sexual assault, non-fatal strangulation, substance use, death investigation and miscarriages of justice, and his work has taken him from the consulting room to courtrooms, police investigations and international forensic conferences.

A prolific author, academic and broadcaster, Jason has appeared in numerous documentaries and podcasts exploring the science behind crime and death. He now joins investigative journalist Donal MacIntyre as co-host of a new podcast, bringing his forensic expertise to the questions, evidence and mysteries at the heart of real criminal cases.

At CrimeCon 2026, Jason will discuss the podcast, the forensic clues that can make or break an investigation, and what really happens when science meets the story of a crime.
