George Procter

George is the Senior Community Development Co-Ordinator at We Are Survivors, a leading voluntary sector organisation providing therapeutic and advocacy support to male victims/survivors of sexual harms and violence.

George has a legal background and specialises in Human Rights law, volunteering as a Magistrate in his spare time and maintaining a keen interest upon the subjects of gendered language within sexual harm legislation and the perpetuation of ‘rape-myths’ within court discussions.

After breaking his own silence on survivorship as a teenager, he has worked to become an advocate for younger survivors by sharing his experiences of the often-undiscussed topic of female-perpetrated abuse. He co-created We Are Survivors’ first dedicated community space for young survivors aged 18-35, the Hangout, and is one of their two thematic leads specialising in helping the organisation to support the needs of Boys and Young Men and raise awareness of the issues they face.

George also hosts We Are Survivors’ podcast, Beyond the Silence, which explores the impact of survivorship and the work that professionals in the field undertake to help support survivors to live their lives and educate others about what they have overcome, in the hopes of removing wider societal barriers of shame and misunderstanding.
