Dr. Hannah Mason-Bish

Dr Hannah Mason-Bish is an Associate Professor in Criminology at the University of Sussex, UK, where she has worked since 2013. She specialises in violence, victimisation and hate crime, with a particular focus on the intersections of gender and disability.

Hannah has given expert evidence and delivered talks to the UN, OSCE, Law Commission and police, and has appeared across TV and radio, including BBC Woman’s Hour, as well as in the Huffington Post. In 2025, she published a book exploring disabled women’s experiences of unwanted touching, examining how disability and gender shape both the nature and impact of unwanted sexual contact.

Hannah teaches the criminology of violence and death, including the cultural representation of serial murder. She is particularly interested in why we are fascinated by violent crime and what true crime can tell us about victims, offenders and society.

She is a forthcoming contributor to the TV series Killers Caught on Camera.



And when she’s not doing criminology, you’ll probably find Hannah with one (or all) of her three cats — or watching true crime on Netflix. Purely for research purposes, of course.
