Dr. Brin Hodgskiss

Dr Brin Hodgskiss is a narrative psychologist whose career includes senior intelligence roles in UK policing. He worked as a Crime Analyst with Hertfordshire Police before progressing from Senior Intelligence Analyst to Strategic Intelligence Manager at Cambridgeshire Police. Across 15 years in policing in the UK and South Africa, he supported a vast range of investigations, combining the analysis of criminal behaviour with operational leadership.

Alongside his policing experience, Brin conducted in-depth interviews with some of South Africa’s most notorious serial murderers, exploring how they understood their lives and explained their crimes. This research earned him a PhD in Psychology from the University of Pretoria and informed his book, Killer Stories: Conversations with South African Serial Murderers, co-authored in 2024.

Brin brings together practical knowledge of police intelligence and first-hand insight into the accounts killers give of their own behaviour; exploring offenders’ motivations, how they justify their actions, and whether labels such as “predator”, “planner” or “compulsive killer” help us understand murder or risk oversimplifying it.
