    SUNDAY SCHEDULE
Author Carol Ann Lee, will be appearing on the live stage at CrimeCon UK

    Carol Ann Lee

    Author

In 2010, Carol’s first true crime book was published: One of Your Own: The Life and Death of Myra Hindley. Issued by Mainstream Publications, it proved to be the definitive study not only of Hindley, but of the Moors Murders case. Carol interviewed a wide cross-section of those involved, from the victims’ families to the policemen who worked on the case originally, as well as many of Hindley's supporters. One of Your Own was both a Times and an Independent Book of the Week and was featured on Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour. It garnered outstanding reviews from the critics and readers alike.

During her research for One of Your Own, Carol met David Smith, chief prosecution witness in the Moors trial. This led to collaboration on the book Witness, published by Mainstream in 2011, in which David told his story for the first time. In 2012 Witness was re-published as Evil Relations, and was shortlisted for the CWA Non-Fiction Dagger, Britain’s leading award for crime non-fiction.

In September 2012, Mainstream published A Fine Day for a Hanging: The Real Ruth Ellis Story, Carol's biography of the last woman to be executed in Britain. Again, she was given access to previously unavailable material, conducted new interviews, and visited Scotland Yard’s Crime Museum to examine the murder weapon. A Fine Day for a Hanging was shortlisted for the 2013 CWA Non-Fiction award.

In July 2015 The Murders at White House Farm was published with an extensive two-part serialisation in the Daily Mail. It was optioned for television by New Pictures Ltd and Carol acted as consultant, reading scripts, speaking to the actors, sharing research material and visiting the sets. Preceded by a huge publicity campaign, White House Farm, a six-part drama, aired on ITV1 and has received excellent reviews. Carol is fully credited at the start and end of each episode.

Among her other books to have been optioned are Somebody's Mother, Somebody's Daughter: The Victims and Survivors of the Yorkshire Ripper, published in March 2019 by Michael O'Mara. Lynda La Plante chose it as her ‘Book of the Year’ in the Christmas edition of The Big Issue.

Helen’s disappearance – just 700 yards from her home in Billinge, Merseyside - triggered one of the biggest missing person’s enquiries in the country.

Local pub landlord Ian Simms was charged and convicted of her murder as a result of overwhelming and groundbreaking forensic evidence (which has only become stronger over the years).

Determined that her daughter should have a decent, Christian, burial, devout Catholic Marie began a heartbreaking quest to find Helen’s remains and bring her home. The next three decades saw her embark on gruelling searches, become a champion for victims’ rights and take her fight for justice all the way to Westminster.

Richard was so saddened that his parents Paul and Diana did not live to see a positive outcome; they would dearly have wanted to bury Suzy where they chose to, not were her murder has.

Richard is extremely proud of his parents for setting up of the Suzy Lamplugh Trust. Even during the first few weeks of Suzy’s disappearance, Richard’s Mum Diana knew she wanted something good to come out of this tragedy. With the drive of both Richard’s parents, it has. It is so gratifying to Richard that this positive impact is continuing after their deaths, with the same mission to reduce the risk of violence and aggression through campaigning, education, and support.

As part of the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, Paul and Diana Lamplugh set up a stalking helpline offering advice and training in the workplace as well as online to loan workers. Paul and Diana Lamplugh strove to create a society in which people are safer and feel safer from violence and aggression; they wanted people to be able to live life to the full.
